Assassins Creed Odyssey is going RPG

Ubisoft’s E3 conference for 2018 was as fun and bizarre as usual. And between Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Beyond Good and Evil 2, The Division 2, Skull and Bones and a whole host of others, the French publisher and developer had a lot to show off. Here’s what we thought about it. Why can't just just be Odyssey? Why does everything have to be related to Assassins Creed, its been done to death. Is it just me or do most people agree that AC ended with Ezio? - with maybe Origins being the only good thing since, but again, why couldn't Origins be its own thing? Just a new IP set of RPGs set in ancient cultures.

People complain about spongyness in certain shooters. Have u played fo4? It doesn’t look like that big a difference in TCTD2
MightyJonE (28 days ago)
Another AC sequel already?! So, it’s back to yearly sequels, is it? Haven’t Ubisoft learnt anything?! Sadly, their games, such as AC and Far Cry, have become derivative, soulless commercial fodder

Guys you've got to Title your videos better as I've put off watching this due to having no interest in Ass Greed, but bored this morning on the loo so watching this and you also talk about other games. Your losing views I'd say.

Don't care; their alterations to history have made the IP toxic to me. Too bad, really.
Lucifer's Heaven (1 month ago)
I've gotta wonder, why is Odyssey even an Ass Creed game? Listening to the list of things that don't interest you, you basically listed off what makes an Ass Creed game in my book. So I'm not sure why they should, or would, change it to something to your taste. I don't mean that as an insult, I just mean why not make less Ass Creed games but keep the things that make them interesting to some people and release Odyssey as it's own new franchise. It looks awesome, but it just looks like it's own, awesome, unrelated Greek action RPG... They could split off into making Ass Creed games that double down on the assassination side of things, and also make these new, cool RPGs. Then they wouldn't get accused of going back to making Ass Creed every year.

That’s it. Ac is dead for me now. Done.

“I like combat, not climbing and jumping from roof to roof” - so basically the AC franchise isn’t for you...

Didn't the previous come out not even a year before? Come on Ubisoft. I thought they were going to stop chugging out a game every year. Sigh.

It’s not about reinventing the wheel in assassins creed it’s about having a great story that just doesn’t end in the game or in the Animus it continues through out the story but with a meaning.

Just really hope they don't use her As a token character, virtue signaling every second she gets.

I miss the old days when AC games actually focused on the brotherhood

the community made assests for the game is bullshit and exploitive by not paying people fair amounts ubisoft can clearly pay for the art they are just greedy scumbags

So much bitching is this comment section, don't like it, don't play it. I for one am truly excited for this game. I don't think every AC game was good enough for the AC title but I loved Black Flag, and Origins a buttload. I truly enjoy the Greek / Spartan theme and I really am excited for this, even more than Origins. People whine about certain franchises being the same or doing things too differently so either way some gamers are never satisfied. I hope it's good and If so, a buy for me hands down. I've pretty much left the online scene and want nothing more than single player games now.
oVERGROUND (1 month ago)
This will probably be the first AC game ever that I won't buy, I never completed Origins because I felt it focused on combat more than stealth (and didn't do a good job at it either), it didn't quite feel like an AC game. See, we don't need a huge country side with witcher-like quests, just give us a city and good stealth combat and meaningful assassination missions. Here's what I propose: Feudal Japan, heavily focused on stealth and one-on-one combat (no more one man army, if you're outnumbered you have to run or outsmart the enemy), you're a trained samurai who seeked out the assassin order when your family was killed by templars. Once you're an established member of the creed bring back assassination missions like in the old games, it doesn't have to be pigeon coops but more logical, like the creed HQ giving you assassination targets from regular citizens who want people dead. Obviously putting more thought into these missions instead of just "go here and kill this guy" like the old games had, make them memorable missions and stories. Also make the health and damage system more realistic, an arrow to the heart or head will kill anyone not wearing armor. No more healthbars, just visual representation that a target might be harder to kill, i.e. they'll wear more armor. That's what I want.

I don't like the main character is different every game now. I liked ezio, i think most people did. There was a connection because of the investment through 3 games. I dislike the combat style to, but i could get over that. But give us the same character again for a couple of games, please.

AC Odyssey doesn't look like an AC game... but ok
Mohammed Aleef (1 month ago)
I just downloaded and played origins ... amazing game but the combat is so clunky
LordTheCyril (1 month ago)
Question about the AC series. The last game I played was black flag. Does the games still have the boring outside of the animus part where nothing matters?
DantertArt (1 month ago)
Hit Record sucks as an idea, it means that they get so many concepts artworks music etc and just pay a few artists.

Origins combat sucks compared to the other AC games. Liked the game was just a bit disappointed by the combat.

Public service annoucement: The Assassins Creed is made up of tenents: One of them is "hide in plain sight". This game has no social stealth mechanics. Not even a hidden blade. To call this AC is a disgrace.
JDM408 (1 month ago)
I'm a hardcore AC fan, and I'm staying cautiously optimistic about Odyssey. From a story standpoint, it feels odd that this game takes place about 400 years BEFORE Origins, so it'll be interesting how they tackle Assassin and Templar/Order of the Ancients like factions. The story has definitely taken a backseat for some years since they're focusing more on the gameplay, which is understandable. Origins' story was okay, but very underwhelming especially if you play it in order and not do side quests. It's nice that Odyssey will go into more detail on the First Civilization/Those Who Came Before/Isu, but I feel like it's too late at this point, at least for me. They've been building up the whole Juno storyline since the ending of AC3, and it has barely gone anywhere, and they're finishing it up... in a comic... SMH. It's clear at this point, the historical aspect has less focus compared to the old games with it's database on people, buildings, events, etc. Not to mention they've heavily deviated away from the original AC concept.

please dont say crowds or ubisoft will ignore the game's features and just focus on the crowds

Nope, looks like a watered down RPG to me. Couldn't finish origins because it just felt like a poor man's Witcher 3.
Triggy McTrigger (1 month ago)
Repetitive side missions were the problem in AC Origins. Theyre more focused on the "choices matter" part than the "more things to do" part of the game and that worries me

CDPR betrayed their fans going for mainstream GTA/CoD fans. I can't believe I'm saying this but ubisoft is our only hope now for a proper third person rpg since Bioware is already dead and CDPR is on their way to join them.

Far too soon after origins, looks like ubi have gone back to pumping out a new a.c every year , should have released in 2019 because red dead 2 will probly get goty .
Matthew Littler (1 month ago)
I actually used stealth more often in Origins than the older AC games.
FAT JAXSON (1 month ago)
At first I didn't understand the change of date assassins creed franchise but now that I think about it you don't have to be sneaky and stealthy to be an assassin so it makes sense to me now
Lord Fenrir (1 month ago)
Clearly they are caring more for AC, but is the essence there? I like the diretion they are developing, but i like some old stuff tho, the Stealth (yep, KEEP it!) and the deep lore, but since the IV it appears to are being put at a second place.

Sonlirain (1 month ago)
Allright. While i think the BGE2 community collaboration idea is AMAZING i'm... not sure if 50k is a large enough sum. Really depending on how much extra stuff you want to draw from the community pool and how much of the game will be community made content. Because this can really be received anywhere from a glowing. "letting fans contribute and get some pocket money while they're at it" All the way to the cynical. "We just wanted some cheap art and music to pad out the game and we didn't want to pay professionals".

It's Excite Bike 2019 ;)
No from what I heard from the people that have seen the gameplay footage and stuff, it seems to be just another Ubisoft game, the side quest, the dialogue, the story, is more of the same, if you like Origins you will likely like this one but for people like me I doubt there will be enough reason to pick odyssey up, I have to agree that the world looks beautiful but it is mostly superficial, there is not much depth and interesting interaction that you could do in it, at least from the information I got so far, I could be wrong and if the game turns out to be really good then I would be happy but that is unlikely

Wasnt there supposed to be a break between the ac releases? Was the break already? I still feel like every half year there is a new ac game.
D4rkLocus (1 month ago)
Yo Momma haha ok :) so the break wasnt really a break :) didnt they also say something about 1 year ac and 1 year watchdogs?
Yo Momma (1 month ago)
There was a one year break, where they had a movie and some remasters and spinoffs as well, so not really. Other than that, yearly.
Vault Boy 76 (1 month ago)
There's no parkour, no hidden blade, no Assassin's cloak... How is this an Assassin's Creed game? And you casual gamers can make excuses but for over 10 years real fans have been able to recognize an Assassin's Creed game by the hidden blades, the parkour and the robes. It's what made AC what it was. If there are none of those elements in this game why are they calling it assassin's creed? It's not assassin's creed
Yo Momma (1 month ago)
There is freerunning. Just not a gameworld to capitalize on it, so its almost as bad.
Thazgar (1 month ago)
Short Answer : No. AC : Origins was great. But this just look like a copy/paste with a Greek Skin. This is beyond ridiculous, and we'll soon be back in the AC franchise being clone after clone, only with a different setting. I'm starting to miss the old gameplay of the AC franchise. It wasn't hard, but i loved the cinematographic feel of the combat system. AC2 and Brotherhood were the best combat wise to me, but i must say i loved how AC3 manage to make the combat looks brutish and dirty. Since Black Flag tho, enemies were just standing, waiting to be killed one by one. Unity was a bit better on this point.
Joseph Senatus (1 month ago)
Thazgar so what's the story on the magic rock anyway did the templars find it by now? By looking how many AC games released at this point

Mark Ondrejech (1 month ago)
The biggest turn off for me, as well as others, is that it doesnt look like an "Assassin's Creed" game. It has the name and logo on the cover but it just doesn't seem to feel like the previous games. AC1-Unity felt like you were a stealthy killer who worked under a creed and tenants to fight templars. Now with Origins and Odyssey it just feels like they are throwing the AC name and Logo onto historical games to snag some extra cash. I dunno, it just doesn't feel like an AC game to me, but I'll wait and see
Sketchcook81 (1 month ago)
They need to just stop. They couldn't figure out how to go forward, so they started making prequels to squeeze more money out of the franchise.
Dunce Developer (1 month ago)
AC Rome is already botched. You see that level system again? That's the biggest problem right there. And thats why this game is worth 0 cents.
Mirko (1 month ago)
Does it still come with those stupid present day missions? The ones that rip you out of good game play and shove you into boring filler crap. No thanks.
Yo Momma (1 month ago)
Its funny what you call filler is the only connective tissue between one game and the next.

It's kinda weird.....the quality of the games got worse, so they skipped a year to give us a fantastic game in 2018...next AC in 2019......WTF?
Phil Martinez (1 month ago)
I'm no history buff but...I doubt there were female warriors in 400 B.C. regardless if she is a Spartan. Spartan women trained to defend the home but not engage in open warfare. I don't understand this giant push for combative women in games meant to be historically accurate (emphasis on the historically accuracy part). Combative women in fantasy I canbelieve but women fighting on the front lines really in WW2 and in Ancient History...it shouts political peacocking
Jacob Settlemyer (1 month ago)
I can’t stand the accent on the monkey that’s the worst part of this game so far
Salient and Sentient (1 month ago)
I sort of want the new Assassin's Creed to continue the formula they established in the last one. I enjoyed the RPG elements they introduced in Origins, and I thought the combat in that was way more enjoyable than the overly cinematic and flamboyant combat of the previous entries in the franchise. So if they give me another experience in the style of Origins, I'll be down to check it out.
Facking hell another AC game. Is this the 900th?
They nailed it!
Bigbad Crawford (1 month ago)
I think the new AC game looks good. Like the setting. I enjoyed origins. It isn't a top franchise or game. Hasn't been since Ezios adventures in 2 and brotherhood, but to me it is consistently entertaining and fun for what it is. Usually always a solid 7 type game for me and that is good enough sometimes. Wasn't into the division. Tried it and didn't enjoy the bullet sponge enemies. Prefer more realistic gunplay.
MrJblazini (1 month ago)
It's Origins in white faces 😂😂😂

Ubisoft are complete morons; origins was such a breath of fresh air but as soon as they realised it's success they've decided to revert back to the samey annual crap which ruined the series for about 5 years

No, I still can see the core of AC in Odyssey. Don't know why some are complaining about there being a woman when you can clearly choose to be a man or woman. If Odyssey was only played as a woman than I would have understood.
gelul12 (1 month ago)
AC real story died with Desmond. Now its just an historical Action//rpg Game with AC sauce but thats my opinion
TheProphet49 (1 month ago)
Assassins Creed is stealth action and conspiracy, that is the IP. Ubisoft should have just split this and Origins into a new IP given how different they are. They havent put out a good AC game since Brotherhood, though Blackflag was a great pirate simulator.

I don't get why people think ac origins was A huge change it had the same gameplay and once you have finished around 5 missions you played the whole game
Diddleydoops (1 month ago)
I dont understand how some people are upset its back to yearly releases. This game has 3 yewrs of development and Origins already was the big change, all they had to do was use Origins as a jumping off point
Yo Momma (1 month ago)
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Anything else aside, some breathing room to give people time to miss it can be a good thing. It also gives Ubi more time to take criticism to heart in time to change things for the better.

Stealth gameplay and climbing around the city is not really your type of thing? So your not a fan of assassins creed then. That's fine to not like something but a lot of people did like that. I hate that they are watering down the game and making it like other games.

Tetsuoni Toramaru (1 month ago)
AC: Odyssey looks as though it has the exact same finishers, generally 100% of the same combat as Origins does. Not looking forward to rinsing and repeating the same attacks for another 10-15 hours of gameplay in a bland, recycled texture environment where your decisions will most assuredly lead into, what say, 3 potential endings?
