Graphics Settings tested and compared - Rainbow Six Siege

7042 ratings | 166369 views
As promised in my video exploring the use of non-native aspect ratios, I have tested every graphics setting in Rainbow Six Siege to find the optimal choice in terms of image quality and framerate. Let me walk you through them one by one to show you what each setting does and how intensive the demand on your hardware will be. You should have showed Very High textures vs Ultra
Eye of the Storm (4 months ago)
I also disagree with your verdict on Ambient Occlusion. It casts shadows on areas where two surfaces meet, giving it depth and making the operators stand out more in the environment form my experience. This comparison should give an idea: https://images.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/tom-clancys-rainbow-six-siege/tom-clancys-rainbow-six-siege-ambient-occlusion-interactive-comparison-005-hbao-plus-vs-off.html

Shading primarily affects ground and wall textures that have bumps, giving it the illusion of height/depth, and reflections are actually important, as they can relay information on walls and floors by reflecting the game world off of them.

finally, a video that supports 1440p.

Very good video! However, TAA is extremely usefull for the low spec pc, this is what alows them to run the game at 60fps

i have 1gb graphics card and i can play on ultra with 40fps
Nukeclears (25 days ago)
Great video! the only thing I think is worth a little note that Bloom (not lens flare) does make sense from first person perspective. Your eyes have a limited dynamic range and bloom simulates this by blowing out highlights a bit (the same way you see a lightbulb glow in your line of sight)

So I'm playing on a Dell Inspiron 13, just downloading the game. I do eventually want to buy a gaming PC, but for now it's this and PS4. Plus it was like 16 bucks, and either way I get the TTS. So even if it plays like shit, it's worth it for the early content. Anyways, Intel HD Graphics 620, what does anyone think (by the way, I'm in college and flat ass broke, so that PC isn't coming soon)

bro you have got my pc lol same specs

Thx Rogue :) I can finally play on my 1440p 144Hz monitor at 144 or so FPS.

Wait, did you say I could run this game on medium to high settings on older systems? My old computer wouldn’t be able to run r6 on the lowest settings and for its time, it was a pretty good computer. But now it’s complete shit so that’s why is still play on my xbox😩😩😫

Texture resolution and filtering should be set to the lowest for competitive advantage. Your eyes are better at discerning sharp outlines if they are against a blurred/uniform background, reducing texture quality and filtering increases the blurriness slightly but not significantly. I think you have a misunderstanding with the "unnatural visuals", in general unnatural things are easier to notice, so it would be preferable to increase the number of these on opponents. It would be best to look at how LOD affetcs the enemy model. This is also true for the enemy shadows, I think you should have taken a better look at what objects cast shadows at different settings, it would be extremely powerful to be able to see player shadows but have a smaller number of environment shadows, maybe something for another video. Also I disagree with the T-AA part, you don't seem to have done the research about how these different things work... T-AA and render scaling will produce strange artefacts on corners caused by the lower resolution render. This will mean that some objects might be hidden at certain viewing angles but not at others. I would recommend avoiding render scaling unless you need it to get valuable framerate. Also as far as framerate, you should mention that framerate is never constant, different scenes will render at different framerates so you need to be conscious of that when choosing your settings, it is generally best to keep a decent margin between your target average framerate and monitor refreshrate so that it drops below refreshrate as little as possible.

Is it just me??? When i turn down the Render Scaling down the Aiming in the Aim will become much better in my Opinion. Its like there is an Input Lag when i turn it higher.

T-AA has a lot of blur while moving while FXAA has no blur while moving, I am sticking with FXAA.
sc0rch (1 month ago)
Should you be using render scaling that matches your resolution or less? I’ve noticed that default and most players seem to be at 50%, but doesn’t that seem wrong to run half of 1920x1080 in game?

PLEASE READ THIS - I BELIEVE IT WILL BE OF HELP You've been testing a lot of things alone in a custom game. I've found that some of the settings you've explored (i'm not sure which ones) don't necessarily change the lighting around you, but change the lighting on player models. Occasionally while playing i manage to get flicks onto opponents because i have seen reflections/bright lighting on their helmets while they're hiding in shadows or just peeking out above a table in between different object. My friends later informing me that they didn't see anything most probably due to their lower graphics settings. You might want to explore this with a friend to see if this discovery is real or not, it could be a real game changer if its affected by an in game setting. Either it is a thing or i'm just good at spotting opponents hiding in dark areas.

Rogue when it comes to reflections try it with a shiny weapon skin like platinum on different lighting conditions Its quite a deference By the way great vid
Vladimir Gološin (2 months ago)
Thanks for the video , i'm trying to get stable 75 fps on GTX 950 , i5 3350p and 8 gigs of RAM. Maybe i should set refresh rate to 60?
TeaForce (2 months ago)
Not a great video tbh, shading changes tessalation on objects and I believe also includes sub surface scattering, and reflection quality changes reflections mainly on the ground, low has no reflections, medium has half the resolution and high has the full resolution of the reflection

I leave bloom on as it makes iron sights on handguns superbright (easier to use with caviera) but yea lens flares should always be off. Whilst bloom has obvious disadvantages it also has advantages in that it softens shadows and can make enemies easier to see.

Night time maps give me the most problem. Sometimes its fine, sometimes its way darker, or too dim. I can't figure out the proper settings for night time maps, and feel like theres a bug in the game that makes it too dark sometimes.

If he can't tell the difference in the lighting then he's either playing at 1080p or blind as fuck. In lower lighting settings the environment looks harsh and video-gamey. On higher settings it's smoother, operators have better looking skin shaders and the environment takes on a eerily realistic tone.

Great video, I have a 950M laptop and I always turn everything all the way down and still only get 35-45fps. After i turn some setting up I actually get a slightly higher fps and my game looks better, thanks
MamoMark (3 months ago)
I know level of detail can affect the distance reinforced ceilings show up. The pointy ends when looking up disappear at a pretty short range even at high. Reflection uses dynamic relflctions from the environment changes and other operators moving about. One quality below lowers the reflection resolution and the setting below them removes reflections and offers static cube maps. Doesn't help winning; just more pretty.

Nothing new for people who plays FPS for years was said here, but I agree those tips are useful for newcomers to genre (talking about Bloom, Lens and DoF settings). Also - I wish you compared loading times.

This is so helpful, I have a 1070 with a 1700 oc to 3.9. i maxed everything out and was getting around 70 to 90 fps and after I did all this I'm getting 90 to 120. Great video man
