Using Play On Linux For Windows Games On Linux!

06:17
Play on Linux is a wrapper for Wine to play Windows games and applications on Linux Play On Linux manages all your Wine prefixes and other Wineisms so that running Windows applications and games is as easy as possible. POL isn't really affiliated with the Wine project, and doesn't attempt to re-engineer Wine or anything like that. It is literally a GUI on top of your Wine prefixes to make it easier to manage them. Wine stands for Wine is not an emulator, and runs on pretty much any distro of Linux, including Ubuntu. Lutris is another application that can install and launch Wine games for you but Lutris is more of game launcher, whereas Play On Linux is more of a game manager. In this video I tested out Skyrim and Star Wars Old Republic. I had some clips of Guild Wars 2 but they didn't make the cut. Skyrim was a little bit buggy, GW2 was a little bit choppy, but Star Wars was pretty much flawless. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Switch to Linux - Gaming in Linux vs Gaming in Windows

So we all know that Linux CAN game, but how does it game compared to a Windows machine? Let's find out. Today we look at a direct comparison of a few different games, using the same machine, in both Windows 10 and Ubuntu Budgie 16.04. Check out my new, dedicated Linux Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClxCfSepAnuDI7hVCrfIhlg The games we look at, with links to jump to that game: 01:25 - Minecraft 02:12 - Witcher II 02:51 - 7 Days to Die 03:36 - Saint's Row IV 04:13 - Ark Survival Evolved A link to the GTX 1070 used in the machine: http://amzn.to/2nTm5VX ======= At a glance results: Minecraft - Windows 10 120 - 200 FPS, Linux 110-200 Witcher 2 - Windows 10 90 - 190 FPS, Linux 60-180 7 Days to Die - Windows 10 105 - 140, Linux 60 - 80 Saints Row IV - Windows 10 85 - 120, Linux 40 - 70 Ark - Windows 10 60 - 70, Linux 45 - 70 ======= Subscribe to channel: http://bit.ly/2nqw6YE ======= --------- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Eevnos/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/eevnos Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/eevnos/

Linux Gaming (Ubuntu) vs Windows 10 on VMware Benchmarks

03:33
How does gaming on Windows 10 in VMware Workstation measure up to gaming on Linux native? Before anything else - this is NOT PCI/GPU passthrough. VMware Workstation is a type 2 hypervisor and thus cannot support any form of hardware passthrough. VMware Workstation Player 12.x provides a DirectX 10 compatible display driver for the virtual Display Adapter provided to the the guest operating system. Why would you want to game in a VMware virtual machine? Occasionally running games on Wine has undesirable side effects such as forced single-threading, no network connection (ala DirectPlay), or issues around DRM and anti-hack (Battleye) technologies. Since a VMware virtual machine is running a legitimate instance of Windows (not a reverse-engineered version of the Win32 API), these issues do not occur. Keep in mind that running a VMware virtual machine doesn't solve every problem. Performance is always worse than simply running the game in a native instance of Windows. And while performance may be similar or better than running the same game via Wine, it's still not the perfect solution, which is developers and publishers porting their games to Linux. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Running Windows Games On Linux? Try VMware Player Instead!

05:05
Disappointed at the lack of support or performance in using Wine to play Windows games on Linux? Give VMware Workstation Player a try! Wine can be a major pain to run on Linux, even when using a convenient wrapper or helper like Codeweaver's Crossover or Play On Linux. Sometimes games have critical bugs that require massive workarounds while other games simply won't work. If you have the machine for it, VMWare Workstation Player is possibly the best choice in bringing Windows gaming to Linux. Because you are virtualizing a real Windows install within your Linux install. It's like dual booting without having to boot! The games that I tested in this video were PlanetSide 2, EverQuest 2, and Skyrim. Both PlanetSide 2 and EverQuest 2 no longer run on Wine because of Battleye. Skyrim has a "Gold" rating on WineHQ which means it runs but requires a few hacks or tweaks to run properly. All 3 games run straight out-of-the-box in VMware. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Top 10 Most Awesome & Obscure Free and Open Source Linux Games

The past 2 years were huge for Linux gaming, but what happened to all the old-school open source Linux games? Free & Open Source Games Showcased In This Video: * Alien Arena * Frogatto & Friends * MegaGlest * Warmux * OpenClonk * Rigs of Rods * Astromenace * Pioneer * The Dark Mod * AssaultCube * Rysom Special thanks to the wonderful Linux Gamer for letting me use his game footage at the beginning of this video! Egee.io admins Arroz and Teal1500 played Warmux and Alien Arena with me for this video. We tried to play a few other games but networking was a challenge and documentation for certain games was downright bad. Teal1500 - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJP_asKemtx2uuPeL8Z7I6Q Arroz - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLdKJEj-F00mF6UKfNrYiBQ I'm sure folks will point out mistakes or discrepancies in the release date or licenses for the games - just leave a comment with the correct information! Also, Ryzom is at the very end because while it is a great Open Source game, it's not exactly obscure (you can find it on Steam!) ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Top 5 Linux Games of 2015

04:32
2015 has come to an end, and what better way to say good bye than to list out some of the top Linux games of the year. This video was fully recorded, edited, composited and produced on Ubuntu 15.10 64bit. All gameplay footage is obtained through running the games natively on Ubuntu. If you're wondering how these titles were chosen, here is the list of criteria: 1. A brand new game released in 2015 2. Supports and runs on Linux and SteamOS 3. Big hitters (either in terms of sales/brand/gamer ownership) 4. Fully released, not in Early-Access The list was diversified as much as possible to ensure that different genres were captured, so that you may explore titles/experiences you may not have before. This list is not exhaustive. Instead, it highlights the titles that support Linux and made gamers around the world rejoice upon their release with gameplay that captivated the world whilst pushing the boundaries of graphics capabilties, gameplay and high level production. These are also titles that were released in 2015, and not older. SteamOS in 2018... Does it work?

07:25
Back in December 2013, Steam announced a new operating system that would free us from Microsoft’s grip, so that we might enter gaming Nirvanah. What we got was SteamOS. And it’s kind of still in Beta… But first... What am I drinking? Tonight, Ninkasi's Dawn of the Red (Eugene, OR). It's a 7.0%, 66 IBU Red IPA. Pretty good taste. If you're just a fan of Reds, this is a bit hoppy. But for IPA lovers, this is a great brew. Parts in this video: Stratos PC Case: https://amzn.to/2ufxDGp Intel i7-8700k: https://amzn.to/2INaWN9 Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Motherboard: https://amzn.to/2G7n89G Pick up a Steam Link so you don't have to go through the hassle of SteamOS just to play games on the big screen: https://amzn.to/2Jz8WZe According to the latest Steam Hardware Survey, 98.31% of all machines on Steam are running some variant of Windows. This has been the story really since Windows 95 burst onto the scene with Its slew of DirectX APIs. It's nearly become the industry standard, with most games for both Windows and X-Box taking advantage. Enter Valve… They proclaimed a vision for the future of gaming back in December 2013. One that would be free from Microsoft’s hold on consumers. One where you could build a PC from off the shelf components, and download a free operating system where your entire library of games would await you. Or, you could purchase a SteamBox! A prebuilt gaming computer with Linux preinstalled from your favorite retailer. And Valve said… Let there be SteamOS! But… was it good? SteamPlay & Wine vs VMware | Which One Better For Windows Games on Linux?

08:19
Let's talk about Wine & SteamPlay and how it compares to running Windows 10 inside VMware Player for Linux Gaming. SteamPlay is a few feature built into the Steam on Linux. It makes it so you no longer need Lutris or Play On Linux to run your favorite Steam Windows Games because with Steam Play, they are built into your normal games library in Steam! SteamPlay is *not* Wine. It is the brand-new for an open source project called Proton which includes Wine, Dxvk, Ffmpeg, and more projects. I've covered VMware Workstation Player in other videos but I've never compared gaming on VMware with Wine. Attempting to use VMware as a gaming environment has it's own issues because VMware was never designed with performant 3D rendering in mind. Bottom line is - in many cases VMware offers better compatibility with games and applications than Wine does. However because VMware is virtualization and Wine is not, SteamPlay is going to offer better performance in general. FPS Battle - Linux Mint vs. Manjaro vs. Win 10 - CS:GO

07:08
In this video we take a non-scientific but fun approach to comparing FPS between Linux Mint, Windows, and Manjaro. What you can see in this comparison is that all of them did incredible with averages well over 300 FPS. Windows 10 not surprisingly inched out ahead but not as much as you would think considering the level of support they receive from Nvidia and the fact that Win 10 is on different drivers. Leave your comments below about how bad I am at the game and how you have a laptop that does 1000 FPS on highest settings. Valve Proton -- Play Windows Games On Linux From Steam!

09:43
Valve just updated Steam Play with a new technology called Proton, which is a custom implementation of WINE, for running Windows games on Linux (and potentially Mac), while enabling D3D11 and Direct3D 12 apps to translate to Vulkan. The underlying technology Proton is open source and available on Github. Install DOOM 2016 on Wine in Ubuntu Linux (PlayOnLinux)

08:05
A tutorial video for installing DOOM 2016 on Ubuntu 16.04 using Wine and PlayOnLinux. Includes Vulkan. Recommended that you watch the video in at least 720p for clarity of text. I have included English subtitles to assist you, just enable it in CC. This video is meant for beginners. You will need Steam account and a purchased copy of DOOM 2016. Step-by-step: 1. Make sure you have an Internet Connection. 2. Open a terminal and install the following: sudo apt-get install vulkan-utils 3. Download the Windows version of Steam. 4. Install PlayOnLinux 4.2.10. 5. In PlayOnLinux, Tools then Manage Wine Versions. Under AMD64, select 2.0-rc2-staging 6. Click the big install button in PlayOnLinux. 7. Install a non-listed program 8. Proceed through the installer, make sure to select 2.0-rc2-staging and a 64bit windows installation. Proceed to install the windows version of Steam. 9. Once Steam has successfully installed itself in PlayOnLinux, all you need to do is download DOOM and run it! To force DOOM 2016 to run in Vulkan mode, add +r_renderAPI 1 to the Launch Options. Setting that to 0 will force it to launch in OpenGL mode. Please make sure that your graphics card, and graphics driver supports Vulkan. Download and purchase DOOM 2016 on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/379720/ Download windows version of Steam: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/SteamSetup.exe Download PlayOnLinux: https://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html My main computer rig specs: CPU - Intel i7-4770 3.4Ghz GPU - NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB (375.26) RAM - 16GB DDR3 ADATA 1600MHz OS - Ubuntu 16.04 64Bit/Windows 10 Pro 64Bit (Dual Boot) Download Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.10 for free: http://www.ubuntu.com/ My small development blog: techpromad.wordpress.com About me: I'm just a Malaysian, who loves Ubuntu and Linux, and more so gaming!

Wine VS Windows : Assassins Creed 2 Benchmark with a GTX 680

07:27
This video's focus for the benchmark is on the performance of Wine coupled with Nvidia's driver against running Assassin's Creed II natively on Windows. Timeline: 1. Intro 0:00 2. Settings 1:00 3. Side-by-side comparison (Max settings) 1:11 4. Summary 3:20 The following Nvidia drivers were used: Windows 10 Pro with 355.98 drivers Ubuntu 15.04 with 358.16 drivers There are no graphs this time around, as I was not able to record framerates over a duration. GLXOSD seems to refuse to collect framerates when it comes to WINE, and Fraps seems to crash ACII. To keep things fair, settings remained the same on both platforms. V-Sync and Multisampling was disabled on both. Wine 1.8 RC2 Staging was used, and was a clean prefix. CSMT was enabled. Nothing was installed via winetricks or POL. This should be reproducible with little effort. GLXOSD was used for the frame counter on Wine, and MSI Afterburner was used for the frame counter on Windows. I recorded my screen using my Canon SX50HS Powershot camera, so that performance would not be affected. All hardware on this computer is the same. The game is being run from a 1TB Western Digital Green Caviar HDD on both systems, so no hardware discrepancy should exist. On Ubuntu, the CPU governor is set to Performance. For Windows, Power Settings is set to High Performance. Maximum settings means cranking everything ON and to the Highest setting possible. My verdict: WINE handles this game practically as if it were a native title. That is to say, you'll experience very little differences between running ACII in WINE compared to running it in Windows. The only real issues have to do with Uplay and controller support I may have made mistakes, and if I have done so, please forgive me and correct me in the comments. I've tried to do this benchmark and review to the best of my knowledge and capabilities. Valve's new Steam Play and testing a Windows game on Linux with it

19:38
Valve have recently announced a new feature of Steam Play which allows Linux users to play Windows games on Linux through their official client. Introducing a new version of Steam Play https://steamcommunity.com/games/221410/announcements/detail/1696055855739350561 From Valve's initial press release. "In 2010, we announced Steam Play: a way for Steam users to access Windows, Mac and Linux versions of Steam games with a single purchase. More than 3000 of the games that have been added to Steam after that point have included Linux support, with more titles being added every day. Since then, we've continued to look for ways to make more titles easily accessible to Linux users. "So, two years ago, we started an effort to improve the quality and performance of Windows compatibility solutions for Steam games. A lot of our work has been in the form of supporting Wine[www.winehq.org] and other existing compatibility projects. We have also been integrating these tools into the Steam client to provide the same simple plug-and-play experience offered by regular Linux games. "Our goal for this work is to let Linux Steam users enjoy easy access to a larger back catalog. We think it will also allow future developers to easily leverage their work from other platforms to target Linux. This would give them the option of focusing on areas that would make a meaningful experience difference for all users instead, such as supporting Vulkan[www.khronos.org]." GTX 1070 Gaming on Ubuntu : 10 games in 10 minutes Dying Light, F1 2015, XCOM 2 more

A look at high-end maxed out gaming at 1080p on Ubuntu with a GTX 1070! Timeline links: 1. Intro 0:00 2. F1 2015 0:19 3. Metro Last Light Redux 1:17 4. XCOM 2 2:17 5. Dying Light 3:17 6. Dota 2 9:21 The idea of this video is for those who want to get a 1070 and are curious what it's like maxing out games at 1080p. This video also serves as something you can share with friends and family who may not know that they can play high-end games on Linux! I used the Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4k capture card to record, so this is the real-life experience I get when I play these demanding games on maxed out settings! This video is recorded at 1080p 60fps. I used the following Nvidia drivers throughout this video: 370.28 cpufreq is set to Performance. I utilized the Steam FPS counter to show the frames per second, this way anyone can test this against their own results with ease. Metro Last Light Redux is the only title where I kept SSAA at 2x, rather than bringing it to 4x. Download Ubuntu 16.04: http://goo.gl/pqpyJD Ubuntu 16.04 Tips Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzo7l8HTJNK-03snhiZE1WuwkNPAqVW6q What is Ubuntu? "The Ubuntu story ubuntu |oǒ'boǒntoō| Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’. It also means ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’. The Ubuntu operating system brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the world of computers. Ubuntu today Ubuntu today has nine flavours and dozens of localised and specialised derivatives. There are also special editions for servers, OpenStack clouds, and mobile devices. All editions share common infrastructure and software, making Ubuntu a unique single platform that scales from consumer electronics to the desktop and up into the cloud for enterprise computing. The Ubuntu OS and the innovative Ubuntu for Android convergence solution make it an exciting time for Ubuntu on mobile devices. In the cloud, Ubuntu is the reference operating system for the OpenStack project, it’s a hugely popular guest OS on Amazon’s EC2 and Rackspace’s Cloud, and it’s pre-installed on computers from Dell, HP, Asus, Lenovo and other global vendors. And thanks to that shared infrastructure, developers can work on the desktop, and smoothly deliver code to cloud servers running the stripped-down Ubuntu Server Edition. After many years Ubuntu still is and always will be free to use, share and develop. We hope it will bring a touch of light to your computing — and we hope that you’ll join us in helping to build the next version." Linux rodando games do Windows: Testamos o Steam Play da Valve

14:32
