Using Play On Linux For Windows Games On Linux!

06:17
Play on Linux is a wrapper for Wine to play Windows games and applications on Linux Play On Linux manages all your Wine prefixes and other Wineisms so that running Windows applications and games is as easy as possible. POL isn't really affiliated with the Wine project, and doesn't attempt to re-engineer Wine or anything like that. It is literally a GUI on top of your Wine prefixes to make it easier to manage them. Wine stands for Wine is not an emulator, and runs on pretty much any distro of Linux, including Ubuntu. Lutris is another application that can install and launch Wine games for you but Lutris is more of game launcher, whereas Play On Linux is more of a game manager. In this video I tested out Skyrim and Star Wars Old Republic. I had some clips of Guild Wars 2 but they didn't make the cut. Skyrim was a little bit buggy, GW2 was a little bit choppy, but Star Wars was pretty much flawless. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ---- 👍 Support The Channel By Clicking The Links Below! 👍 ✔︎ Motherboard: MSI A88XM: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Running Windows Games On Linux? Try VMware Player Instead!

05:05
Disappointed at the lack of support or performance in using Wine to play Windows games on Linux? Give VMware Workstation Player a try! Wine can be a major pain to run on Linux, even when using a convenient wrapper or helper like Codeweaver's Crossover or Play On Linux. Sometimes games have critical bugs that require massive workarounds while other games simply won't work. If you have the machine for it, VMWare Workstation Player is possibly the best choice in bringing Windows gaming to Linux. Because you are virtualizing a real Windows install within your Linux install. It's like dual booting without having to boot! The games that I tested in this video were PlanetSide 2, EverQuest 2, and Skyrim. Both PlanetSide 2 and EverQuest 2 no longer run on Wine because of Battleye. Skyrim has a "Gold" rating on WineHQ which means it runs but requires a few hacks or tweaks to run properly. All 3 games run straight out-of-the-box in VMware. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Playing Windows Games on Linux

05:05
http://www.gamingonlinux.com When it comes to playing Windows games on Linux many people would recommend the use of a program known as WINE. Although WINE is a difficult beast to tame, it can be done quite effectively with a little help from a program called PlayOnLinux. Linux Gaming (Ubuntu) vs Windows 10 on VMware Benchmarks

03:33
How does gaming on Windows 10 in VMware Workstation measure up to gaming on Linux native? Before anything else - this is NOT PCI/GPU passthrough. VMware Workstation is a type 2 hypervisor and thus cannot support any form of hardware passthrough. VMware Workstation Player 12.x provides a DirectX 10 compatible display driver for the virtual Display Adapter provided to the the guest operating system. Why would you want to game in a VMware virtual machine? Occasionally running games on Wine has undesirable side effects such as forced single-threading, no network connection (ala DirectPlay), or issues around DRM and anti-hack (Battleye) technologies. Since a VMware virtual machine is running a legitimate instance of Windows (not a reverse-engineered version of the Win32 API), these issues do not occur. Keep in mind that running a VMware virtual machine doesn't solve every problem. Performance is always worse than simply running the game in a native instance of Windows. And while performance may be similar or better than running the same game via Wine, it's still not the perfect solution, which is developers and publishers porting their games to Linux. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ Discord: https://discord.gg/tVyBHAU ✔︎ Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Why Linux Gaming Performance Sucks.

05:57
The fact is, in the Linux world, there’s no one corporation to make rules or decide to wall off the garden. Linux is built with openness in mind and it’s licensed as Free software under the GNU General Public License. Linux is better for gaming for one simple reason: choice. Wine VS Windows : Assassins Creed 2 Benchmark with a GTX 680

07:27
This video's focus for the benchmark is on the performance of Wine coupled with Nvidia's driver against running Assassin's Creed II natively on Windows. Timeline: 1. Intro 0:00 2. Settings 1:00 3. Side-by-side comparison (Max settings) 1:11 4. Summary 3:20 The following Nvidia drivers were used: Windows 10 Pro with 355.98 drivers Ubuntu 15.04 with 358.16 drivers There are no graphs this time around, as I was not able to record framerates over a duration. GLXOSD seems to refuse to collect framerates when it comes to WINE, and Fraps seems to crash ACII. To keep things fair, settings remained the same on both platforms. V-Sync and Multisampling was disabled on both. Wine 1.8 RC2 Staging was used, and was a clean prefix. CSMT was enabled. Nothing was installed via winetricks or POL. This should be reproducible with little effort. GLXOSD was used for the frame counter on Wine, and MSI Afterburner was used for the frame counter on Windows. I recorded my screen using my Canon SX50HS Powershot camera, so that performance would not be affected. All hardware on this computer is the same. The game is being run from a 1TB Western Digital Green Caviar HDD on both systems, so no hardware discrepancy should exist. On Ubuntu, the CPU governor is set to Performance. For Windows, Power Settings is set to High Performance. Maximum settings means cranking everything ON and to the Highest setting possible. My verdict: WINE handles this game practically as if it were a native title. That is to say, you'll experience very little differences between running ACII in WINE compared to running it in Windows. The only real issues have to do with Uplay and controller support I may have made mistakes, and if I have done so, please forgive me and correct me in the comments. I've tried to do this benchmark and review to the best of my knowledge and capabilities. 10 Top Playstation 2 Games on Ubuntu Linux with PCSX2

11:43
We do a nostalgia run with 10 top Playstation 2 titles running on PCSX2 on Ubuntu Linux! Timeline: 1. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec 0:00 2. Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence 1:20 3. Tekken 5 2:30 4. Kingdom Hearts 3:30 5. God of War 2 4:30 6. Shadow of the Colossus 5:40 7. Silent Hill 2 6:40 8. Ratchet and Clank 7:40 9. Black 8:40 10. Dragonball Z Budokai 9:40 I'm using PCSX2 version 1.4.0, with the default GSdx plugin (GCC 5.3.1, SSE2) 1.0.0. No GTA or Final Fantasy games included, because those games already have PC versions still available on the market now. They work, but I felt there wasn't really a point showing them through an emulator when there are HD remakes available. No doubt if I knew how to get a GSdx plugin that had SSE3 or AVX2 instead, I would have better performance, since my CPU does support those instruction sets. Unfortunately, PCSX2 only seems to ship with this default plugin right now on Linux. I'm purposefully not playing at the default native resolution, as I want the games to look sharp and as beautiful as they can look. Everything in PCSX2 is left at default except the settings I show in the video. Out of all these 10, the one that doesn't perform the best would be God Of War. That's because it needs the half-pixel offset hack which takes quite a toll on performance. Without that hack enabled, GOW2 has ghosting. I was surprised so many games just work, and work well. A year ago, I couldn't even get a single game to run without it slowing down to a crawl. I can now play all these games in their entirety! I played through all these titles using my original Playstation 2 Dual Shock 2 controller, through a PS2 to USB converter (no brand). Just plug and play on Ubuntu. No additional drivers or third party software needed. For the frame counter on the top left, I used GLXOSD v3. I left it at the default config, and only changed what was shown to being FPS only. Here's the PCSX2 PPA I used to install version 1.4.0 on my system: https://launchpad.net/~gregory-hainaut/+archive/ubuntu/pcsx2.official.ppa My main computer rig specs: CPU - Intel i7-4770 3.4Ghz GPU - NVIDIA GTX1070 8GB (375.20) RAM - 16GB DDR3 ADATA 1600MHz OS - Ubuntu 16.04 64Bit/Windows 10 Pro 64Bit (Dual Boot) Video recorded using: Media Express Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4k Audacity 2.1.2 Video edited using the following software: KDENLIVE 15.12.3 GIMP 2.8.16 Download Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.10 for free: http://www.ubuntu.com/ Download GIMP 2.8.16 for free: http://www.gimp.org/ My small development blog: techpromad.wordpress.com My alias in ubuntuforums.org: myromance123 About me: I'm just a Malaysian, who loves Ubuntu and Linux, and more so gaming!

Install Need For Speed Most Wanted on Ubuntu with PlayOnLinux

14:16
Guide to installing Need For Speed Most Wanted on Ubuntu, using PlayOnLinux (Wine 1.5.30). This video tutorial is done in Ubuntu 13.04, but it will work in Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 as well. It should work in the future as well, as long as PlayOnLinux is available for future Ubuntu versions. This video was requested. To install Need For Speed Most Wanted on Ubuntu using PlayOnLinux, we are going to require a torrented version of the game (since the normal installer is buggy and doesn't really work in Wine). Make sure you have the latest version of Wine (at the time of recording, it was 1.5.30). We will also be using UniWS later on to let NFS MW use higher resolutions than just 1280x1024. Steps: 1. Install PlayOnLinux 4.1.8 or newer. 2. Install Wine 1.5.30 (or newer) into POL. 3. Download NFS MW 2005 (link below) 4. Setup Wine to use VCRun 2005, DirectX9 and VBRun6. 4. Install NFS MW 2005 inside PlayOnLinux using Wine 1.5.30. 5. Paste Uniws.exe and patches.ini into the same prefix as NFS MW. 6. Set NFS MW's in-game resolution to 640x480 and then exit. 7. Rename NFS's speed.exe to speed2.exe (this is temporary) 8. Run Uniws and patch the game using the NFSU2 preset. 9. Rename NFS's speed2.exe BACK to speed.exe 10. Run the game and enjoy! Need For Speed Most Wanted is an old game from 2005, but it's still one of the best lan racing games out there that withstands the passing of time. You can get it working in Ubuntu using this guide. It's relatively heavy on graphics, so older systems should be able to play this as well but how well will differ depending on the system and the drivers. I hope this video helps you get Need For Speed Most Wanted up and running on your system. NOTE: Changing any graphical settings in the options part of the game will make the game crash. That's ok though, as the game will remember the settings on the next time it starts up. Download PlayOnLinux for FREE here: http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html Download UniWS (Universal Widescreen Patcher) from here: http://www.wsgf.org/article/universal-widescreen-uniws-patcher OR https://mega.co.nz/#!0th0yIQR!L3Uq4mjhu0If2v6YelTcXz2FUbN1daSAddoB_TU5HT4 OR http://www.mediafire.com/download/k1a7pc7rk1rtb5s/UniWS.zip OR http://www.nfscars.net/file/view/underground2/16419.aspx P.S: Sorry guys, I have to remove the link. However, a quick Google search using the following torrent name will yield the necessary results. The torrent name is: Need for Speed Most Wanted 1.3 (Black Edition) (2005) NOTE: I don't condone piracy, but in this case where the game is old and the publisher is not actively selling it globally I don't feel it's wrong. If you can buy it, do so! If you've bought it, then it is your freedom to use your purchased copy or the torrent one (since the torrent one provides the updates and fixes, whereas the retail copy doesn't). Since I don't own it, I have not kept it on my computer. How to Download Games & Steam Games in Ubuntu // Ubuntu 16.04 Tips

05:51
In this video, I show you how to download free games in Ubuntu 16.04, as well as how to install Steam and get your Steam games running in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS! Download Ubuntu 16.04: http://goo.gl/pqpyJD Ubuntu 16.04 Tips Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzo7l8HTJNK-03snhiZE1WuwkNPAqVW6q What is Ubuntu? "The Ubuntu story ubuntu |oǒ'boǒntoō| Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’. It also means ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’. The Ubuntu operating system brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the world of computers. Ubuntu today Ubuntu today has nine flavours and dozens of localised and specialised derivatives. There are also special editions for servers, OpenStack clouds, and mobile devices. All editions share common infrastructure and software, making Ubuntu a unique single platform that scales from consumer electronics to the desktop and up into the cloud for enterprise computing. The Ubuntu OS and the innovative Ubuntu for Android convergence solution make it an exciting time for Ubuntu on mobile devices. In the cloud, Ubuntu is the reference operating system for the OpenStack project, it’s a hugely popular guest OS on Amazon’s EC2 and Rackspace’s Cloud, and it’s pre-installed on computers from Dell, HP, Asus, Lenovo and other global vendors. And thanks to that shared infrastructure, developers can work on the desktop, and smoothly deliver code to cloud servers running the stripped-down Ubuntu Server Edition. After many years Ubuntu still is and always will be free to use, share and develop. We hope it will bring a touch of light to your computing — and we hope that you’ll join us in helping to build the next version." Anbox Installation, Setup, and Test - Run Android Applications on Linux!

12:43
Hello Linux users, and welcome back to another video on Byte of Linux. One common struggle for Linux users is finding a good way to run Android applications on their computer. There are some developer-oriented emulators out there, such as Android Studio's emulator and Genymotion, but those might not suit your needs. Recently, a new application called Anbox was released. It takes a different approach to this subject, as it puts Android inside a container which uses the native kernel rather than emulating the entire operating system. For an initial release, it runs surprisingly well. Apps do occasionally crash, but installing third-party APK's is a breeze. Overall, this is a great application with a promising future. Make sure to like, comment, and subscribe for future Linux videos. Thank you for watching! Anbox homepage: http://www.anbox.io Intro made with velosofy.com

Steam Windows games on SteamOS

27:21
I have (by my standards) a huge library of Windows games. Games that I bought long ago when I still considered gaming on Windows or leftovers from bundles I bought for certain Linux games. In time some of those got ported to Linux, but most didn't and probably never will. I don't usually buy games for Windows but I'm stuck with these and also recently I bought (because I really wanted) the recent Wolfenstein games and few others. So although I gave up on Wine gaming I thought it was time to try again, see what's the state of it now. Well, it worked out very well. It is of course Wine, and you have to be prepared to tweak certain things and encounter various bugs and so on, but generally speaking it worked much better than what I was expecting. It actually turned out that it is uncommon to see a game NOT working. I had surprisingly very few issues while the performance was really good and the Xbox controller was working also very well (force feedback included). Wine really improved over time. Also the games were easy to integrate in the SteamOS interface and what I considered once lost games out of my reach, are now playable titles from within the comfort of my couch without having to perform cumbersome maneuvers to start them. The performance is good enough (usually excellent) even allowing me to record the gameplay at 60 FPS, which really takes up some CPU power.

Install EA Origin in Ubuntu with PlayOnLinux (Updated)

11:49
A Guide on how to install EA's Origin client on Ubuntu with PlayOnLinux. This tutorial can be used for Ubuntu 12.04/12.10/13.04/13.10/14.04/14.10 and any other Linux distro that has PlayOnLinux. WARNING: Origin updates itself a lot, and sometimes the OriginThinSetup.exe won't work in PlayOnLinux! For these cases, please instead use OriginSetup.exe. You can obtain it from here: https://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe What's new in this updated guide you ask? The installation process should be a single time thing! With the advancements in Wine, Wine 1.7.35 now eliminates the need for us to patch anything. So long as you can install PlayOnLinux 4.2 or greater, you can follow this guide. The EA Origin client is FREE! So, you're more than welcome to try it yourself. To follow this video, you will need: 1. PlayOnLinux 4.2 or greater 2. OriginThinSetup.exe 3. Wine 1.7.35 (or newer) installed in POL Hopefully this video is still easy to follow. This video only guides you on getting the client up and running, but downloading and installing games should work fine now (no need for patching or anything of the sort). You can chat, browse the store, buy games, download games, install games and play them. Note that DX10/11 games won't work! This means BF3/BF4/Crysis3/Titanfall are a no go. Download EA's Origin [FREE]: http://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe Download Steam for Linux here (FREE): http://store.steampowered.com/about/ P.S: There should no longer be a need to patch anything! The only issue you should run into is when the installing of games gets stuck. In these cases, just open System Monitor and kill the EAProxyInstaller process. Go ahead and test/play your games after that! Top 5 Linux RPG Games

06:09
Taking a look at all the recent Linux titles, 5 top-of-the-line RPG titles get voted and cherry picked! Fun facts about this video: 1. All recording, editing, compositing and rendering were done entirely on Ubuntu. 2. Over 100 hours of work went into making the entirety of this video (lots of learning too). 3. The initial intro (47 seconds) took 4 and a half hours to render on 8GB of DDR3 1333Mhz. After upgrading to 24GB of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM, it only took 1 hour and a half. 4.
