I Was Almost A School Shooter | Aaron Stark | TEDxBoulder

07:29
After growing up in painful, abusive conditions, Aaron Stark was on his way to an atrocity, until simple acts of kindness changed his life forever. What is causing the rise of violence and are our current fears and solutions just making it worse? My name is Aaron stark. I am 39 years old with 4 children, 2 cats, one dog, and a beautiful wife. I am a stay at home dad; my wife is the breadwinner of the family. I am a comic book fan, a pop culture junkie, and a lover of the sciences. I have more knowledge about superheros, pro wrestling, and comedy than anyone really has a right to. After growing up in very abusive and violent circumstances followed by over a decade if personal recovery, I am now a happy family man. I recently shred a very personal story of my triumph over my past, and it has changed my life forever. My mission is to let people know that no matter how dark it may seem, there is light coming. We really are not alone. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Someone Stole My Phone And Started To Post Terrible Things

05:46
SUBSCRIBE ACTUALLY HAPPENED: https://bit.ly/2J5HP7j This is Trish. We all love our phones, but sometimes they can completely ruin our lives. This is what almost happened to her. Trish was always busy with a lot of things at once - like school projects, learning a musical instrument, and many other things besides. She's proud of how active she is, but it has its downsides as well - quite often, Trish would forget stuff because her mind was constantly focusing on multiple things; she'd always be either day-dreaming or planning. This is the reason why this whole story came to be in the first place. It was a regular day at school, but then Trish remembered she had a doctor’s appointment. She rushed from school to make it in time. And then she realized that she had forgotten her phone! She couldn’t go back, so she just thought that someone would probably find it and would give it to a teacher or something. After visiting the doctor, she went to her guitar lesson. By this point, she had completely forgotten about her phone - and that was a huge mistake. When she got home, she found out that something terrible had happened while she was away. Someone had taken her phone and posted horrible things about other people from her social media accounts. It's worth repeating that for emphasis - these were really HORRIBLE things. Like, insulting posts about people from her school, their personal information, and even their secrets. Secrets she didn’t even know about! Trish quickly deleted all the posts and changed her passwords, but it was too late. The damage was done. She just couldn’t understand why anyone would do something like that to her. It’s not like she had enemies. She now felt horrible, like she was cornered in an aquarium full of sharks. It was painful to even think about what was going to happen the next day. She tried to sleep, but she didn’t have much success. She slept for barely two hours when her alarm rang. She had to get up and go to school. Things were even worse than she had imagined. As Trish walked down the corridor, people stared at her. She could feel their eyes on her. The only way to describe this feeling was that it was like she was getting smaller while everyone else suddenly got much bigger. One or two people even shouted something at her, and she couldn’t even respond properly. As the day went on, nobody talked to her, and well, she just couldn’t make herself talk to them either. At the end of the day, she found her phone in her bag. The person who stole it had put it back at some point. Maybe she should have felt better, but she didn’t. It just made things worse. When she got home, Trish burst into tears. She cried until she felt exhausted, and then she felt a bit better. She started to think about the situation as a whole, and how to deal with it. She thought that maybe she would be able to find the person who had done this to her. Before deleting the posts, she'd taken screenshots of some of them, just in case - she wasn't really sure why. But it turned out to be the right decision in the long run. She started to look through them, trying to analyze the writing style. If someone had put her phone back in her bag, it meant that it was one of her classmates, because she hadn't really left the classroom during the day - she'd been trying to hide from the other kids staring at her. She noticed that the person who'd done it had used a very peculiar emoji, one that nobody else used very often. It was one of the girls from her class, Katie. It was weird because she was a very quiet and nice girl who would never even look at the person she was talking to. She decided to confront Katie the next day in the morning, and ask why she did it. So, the time came, and after their first lesson, Trish approached her and asked her if she'd done it. Her eyes widened, she couldn’t say anything for a few seconds, and then she muttered “sorry.” Just saying “sorry” wasn’t enough, so Trish continued to ask her questions. Katie just looked at her shoes, not saying anything, and then started to sob. She told Trish that she had problems at home and wanted to take her anger and disappointment out on someone else, and that she was sorry she did it and that Trish didn’t deserve it. Trish asked her to tell the teacher and the other kids. Katie was hesitant at first, but then agreed. Several months have passed since that happened, and you'll be surprised to learn that Trish is now friends with Katie. She revealed the truth to everyone, and people hated her for it, but although Trish felt angry, she also understood that Katie was crying out for help in her own perverse way. She told Trish what was happening at home, and well, she shouldn’t reveal it here, but it wasn’t good. She felt alone, just like Trish did during those terrible few days. You can’t change this. It’s the nature of things. But you can prepare yourself for the next unwelcome surprise. How? By building resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from life’s inevitable disappointments, failures, and pains. Let me use an analogy here. If cars didn’t have shock absorbers, every ride would be a miserable experience. The ride through life without shock absorbers – that is, resilience – would be the same. So, without building resilience – your own internal shock absorbers – it’s not possible to lead a happy and productive life. Resilience is the opposite of fragility. To be fragile means that just about everything upsets you. And if just about everything upsets you, you will spend a lot of time angry and hurt. And if you spend a lot of time angry and hurt, you will not be a happy person. Here, I’m not focusing on severe illness, the death of a loved one or any crushing life-changing event. In such cases, people usually need help to recover. But for most of us, such situations are rare – while the slights and disappointments of ordinary life are not. And for those, we need resilience. OK, then. How do you develop resilience? Here are some suggestions to get you started, drawn from my forty-plus years as a psychiatrist. First, get some perspective. Step back and assess your situation with as much objectivity as you can. “How bad is this problem?” “Have I overstated it?” Sometimes my patients think an unhappy occurrence is much more serious than it really is – usually because it’s amplified by evoking a painful childhood issue. Often getting perspective is as simple as asking yourself this question: “What’s the worst thing that can happen?” Usually you’ll discover the worst thing isn’t that bad – and isn’t even likely to happen. Second, compare the undeserved bad things that have happened to you with the unearned good things that have happened to you. When I ask my patients to do this, they invariably conclude that the unearned good in their life far outweighs the undeserved bad. I’d say the ratio is at least 10 to 1. In my own case, I didn’t earn the incredibly good fortune of my grandparents moving to America, or that life-saving penicillin was available to me in my childhood when I was sick. I could go on and on. And so could you. In light of this, maybe things aren’t so bad after all. In fact, they’re probably pretty good. Third, toughen up. Life hits you from all directions – health, personal relationships, work challenges, family issues. To deal with them, you need to build up your mental toughness. The earlier in life one starts this process, the better. That’s why parents who coddle their children and protect them from every hurt and failure are not doing them any favors. Nor are colleges that provide students with so-called “safe spaces.” To toughen up, you need to push yourself. How do you know what you’re capable of if you don’t do that? What If You Stopped Sleeping for a Week?

09:20
People spend almost half of their lives sleeping, and still seem to never get enough of it. Have you ever thought what would happen if you stopped "wasting time" on this process? You would surely have a lot of free time for learning something new, doing sports, working, or just hanging out with friends. Sounds cool? But let's have a look at the consequences of never sleeping again. After one day without sleep, you’ll feel better than ever. The reason for these strange feelings lies in the fact that your brain increases dopamine levels trying to compensate your lack of sleep. However, closer to the end of the day, this happy mood is evaporating. It's strictly "not recommended" to drive in such a state, as it may turn extremely dangerous when you're sleep deprived. After two days without sleep your body will have less and less energy, and you will begin to look pale and a bit ill. What is even worse, your immune system will start to let you down becoming less efficient. Your judgment will get impaired. What is more, the effects of the absence of sleep will be getting worse and worse, and after a short time, the body will begin to shut down. This means that after three sleepless days you'll be unable to function or communicate normally. If you manage to fall asleep on the 11th day, shockingly, there won't be any long-term health effects. This means that after a good and quality sleep lasting about 12 hours, you will be perfectly fine. This doesn't refer to those people who suffer from fatal familial insomnia. Such patients can survive maximum for a year, and a half granted their condition was worsening gradually, and they still managed to sleep from time to time for the first several months of the disease. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS After one day without sleep. 0:44 After two days without sleep.1:51 After three days without sleep. 2:52 How long is it possible to survive without sleep? 4:02 Recommendations how to fall asleep more easily 5:34 SUMMARY -This may seem weird, but after 24 hours without sleep, you'll start to feel happy and elated. -As soon as the second day without sleep starts, you will have some important physical functions getting shut by your body. For example, its ability to metabolize glucose will be lost. -You will start to hallucinate after three days with no sleep, and your body will be desperately trying to rationalize the feelings it's experiencing. -The maximum recorded time without sleep was approximately 264 hours, that's about 11 days. After that, the body shuts down completely which leads to death. -Figure out your favorite sleeping position. Before going to bed, enjoy a nice warm shower or a bath with eucalyptus or lavender bath salt. Sleep in the nude. Start to control the light you're exposed to a couple of hours before you go to bed and add some gentle sounds. Don't eat before going to bed. What If You Stopped Eating Sugar for 1 Week

08:46
Eating too much sugar can seriously affect your health. What will happen to your heart, brain, and skin, if you quit sugar at least for a week? Eating too much sugar leads to weight gain, sharp mood swings, and even addiction. Some nutritionists consider sugar to be even more dangerous than fat, but we still don’t pay enough attention to the amount of sugar we consume every day. What will happen to you if you quit sugar at least for a week? Well, the changes are going to be incredible! We're going to tell you how you'll feel if you stop eating donuts and if it’s even worth the effort. TIMESTAMPS You'll overcome a serious addiction 0:55 Your breath will be better 1:33 You’ll increase your brain power 2:13 You’ll be less likely to have Alzheimer’s disease 2:44 Your skin will look younger 3:11 Your heart will thank you 3:36 You’ll have less bad cholesterol 4:09 You’ll have a much better mood 4:29 You'll finally get a good sleep 5:04 You’ll be less likely to have diabetes 5:35 You'll lower the risk of having cancer 6:03 Your eyesight will be sharper 6:23 You'll lose weight fast 6:50 You'll see your doctor less often 7:22 You'll save a crazy amount of money 7:57 SUMMARY - Studies show (and that might sound shocking) that sugar is actually more addictive than cocaine! Lab rats were given cocaine until they became addicted to it. - Sugar is often linked to the development of numerous lung conditions, so lowering sugar intake results in weakening asthma symptoms. - Studies have shown that sugar hinders such activities as learning and memorizing things. - A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that giving up sugar may result in your acne disappearing. Sugar is inflammatory, and inflammation is known as a cause of acne. - People who eat too much sugar have a much higher risk of having a heart attack. - High sugar intake raises levels of bad cholesterol and blood fats that can clog your blood vessels, leading to severe heart conditions that can be a huge threat to your life. - Studies found that people, who eat very little sugar or none at all, are rarely diagnosed with depression. - You will be very active throughout the day and ready to sleep when the bedtime comes. Your day/night cycle will be more naturally balanced. - When you eat too much glucose, high insulin resistance develops. It means that sugar can’t get into your cells and can get stuck in the bloodstream. - Pancreatic cancer is often linked to high sugar intake. However, the results of the studies haven’t been entirely consistent; it’s better not to take the risk on this one. - Sugar also affects the health of your eyes. Fluctuations of insulin and glucose levels lead to vessel damage and decrease blood supply to your eyes. - When you eat a lot of sugar, especially fructose, you are very likely to overeat. The pancreas is forced to produce more insulin, so other hormones that regulate metabolism, digestion, and weight are neglected. - Your immune system is seriously affected by consumption of large amounts of sugar. You are protected from bacteria and viruses by white blood cells. - Stop eating sugar and spending money on doctors, dentists, those expensive acne concealers and sweet food and drinks that only harm you. How to Fix Your Posture in 4 Moves! (PERMANENTLY)

09:19
Fix your posture in 90 days - http://athleanx.com/x/my-workouts Subscribe to this channel here - http://bit.ly/2b0coMW If you have poor posture, you not only are aware of it but likely would welcome an easy way to fix it. In this video, I’m showing you a 4 step plan that can attack the most common posture flaws to give you a nice, tall, upright posture sooner than you think. I’m going to show you how to hit correct rounded shoulders, a hunched back, crooked neck, forward head and tilted pelvis. When you apply the easy drills shown here you will start to feel better almost instantly and work towards permanently fixing your bad posture. The four biggest problem areas for those with bad posture is the neck, shoulders, mid back and pelvis. Specifically, if you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk or behind the wheel you will wind up getting slumping shoulders and a rounded back. To counteract the head being pulled downward, you wind up tilting your head up so you can look straight ahead. This has the effect of overarching your neck and weakening the deep neck flexors. Finally, when the upper spine curves forward, the pelvis winds up curling under. This posterior pelvic tilt is something that adaptively tightens the hamstrings and weakens the lower back. If you want to fix your posture you have to hit each of these areas with individualized attention. We have actually addressed each of these in depth with the following videos: How to Fix Rounded Shoulders - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLwTC-lAJws How to Fix Anterior Pelvic Tilt - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-CrEi0ymMg How to Fix Posterior Pelvic Tilt - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1sfPfsESDQ How to Fix a Rounded Upper Back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-GDuhjOAU8 That said, there is something that you can do for each of these areas that will help you to correct the postural problems without having to spend a long time each day. These are efficient and effective but do need your consistency in order to make a lasting impact on the correction. The funny thing about posture is that we often spend a lifetime doing the things that ruin our posture in the first place, yet expect that we will be able to fix it in an hour. While not an hour, these posture correction exercises will have an immediate impact on the way you feel. You should feel as if you have more mobility in the tightened areas and that your body begins to move more free and easy. From here, with a bit of consistency you will be able to make permanent changes in your posture that will have you feeling stronger and looking much better than you do now. An important note on posture and working out, that I referenced earlier, is that it is not a good idea to lift weights when your body is severely out of alignment. All you are doing is strengthening poor posture and dysfunction. Lifting weights in the presence of dysfunction is quickly going to lead to not only other compensations elsewhere in the kinetic chain but likely wind up in injury. It is much smarter to fix the issues with your posture first and then strengthen your body to reinforce the new perfect posture. For a complete program that helps you to correct your posture at the same time that you are actually building new muscle and getting ripped, head to http://athleanx.com and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Use the same exact workout routine used by Jesse to not only add muscle to his frame but dramatically improve how he looks when standing. For more videos on how to fix bad posture and the best way to get rid of scapular winging and rounded shoulders, be sure to subscribe to our channel here on youtube at http://youtube.com/user/jdcav24

Why Uber Is A Scam - Math Explains

05:37
Ok so I was looking at this graph put on Uber’s website today and thought it looked too good to be true. How amazing that Uber drivers make more than any other type of driver. But I knew from my own experience as a rider that Uber didn’t cost that much. In fact, Uber is pretty cheap if you’re a passenger. Sooooo…. how can uber be so cheap, and yet the drivers make so much money??? Now Uber has cut pay to drivers in Detroit to 24cents a mile , but we’re going to stick to the 90c for now. Uber takes 20% of the total fare from the driver for older drivers. Newer drivers get 25% taken. So we’re down to 67.5c per mile. Then you have to deduct tax: In some LA County's, sales tax is as high as 10%, and Uber doesn’t withold taxes for you. The drives are responsible for keeping this money aside to pay the tax department in April. So with the 10% deducted, we’re down to (just over 60 cents) 60.75c Now we need to factor in depreciation of the car. A car is an asset like anything else, and will eventually wear out and you’ll have to buy a new one. Every mile you drive decreases the value of your car and brings you that much closer to needing a new one. This is a big problem if you drive for a living, you’re going to need to buy a new car every two or three years and the cost of a new car is significant. The IRS estimates vehicle cost to drive a vehicle for work at $0.54 a mile . Broken down into Fuel costs @ an average of 12c per mile Depreciation at $0.24c per mile. Repairs, tyres, & maintainence at 9c per mile Insurance, licence, registration, finance, fees - average out to around 9c per mile So with 54c depreciation, repairs, and fuel accounted for, we’re down to just over 6c per mile that actually goes into your hands of drivers. Given that Uber also asks its drivers to buy things like bottles of water, gum, and chargers for it’s passengers, we can say for certain that driving for Uber pays well below minimum wage or even worse, costing drivers money (as is seen directly in this actual fare uber charged one of it’s drivers). So given the math is so bad, why does anyone drive for Uber? Here’s an example of a post an Uber driver posted - he was $400 behind on the rent, and needed to make up some quick cash. In a way, uber is kind of like a loans scheme. Now for some people in desperate circumstances, what Uber’s offering might be an acceptable deal. But for most people, driving for Uber is a waste of time. I wish Uber would be more honest with people. By our calculations, the amount you’re making as an uber driver is nowhere near $19 per hour. If you drive 30 miles per hour at 6.75c per hour, you’re only making $2.00 per mile - by far the worst choice of any transportation job. This number is supported by Not Cool Uber, who have tracked hourly earnings to be around $2.89 and, after vehicle fees are taken into account, $0. Now – I’m not against car pooling. We all need transport, and I know I am a frequent user of Uber & Lyft. But I think that Uber is going about it in an unethical way, which makes me unethical for supporting them as a customer. Uber could easily fix this situation : by reducing their commission, by making rates more reasonable, by giving riders the option to Tip their drivers, or just by being transparent. But that would mean admitting that they’ve generated significant revenue from effectively exploiting their drivers. So the truth is, Uber benefits from maintaining this status quo. Uber is currently reported to be making $10 billion in revenue per year - and that money has to come from someone. Just don’t let that someone be you. The collapse of Venezuela, explained

07:31
The country is in chaos, but its leaders aren't going anywhere. Correction at 1:58: It’s been brought to our notice that the Supreme Court tried to strip the country’s National Assembly of its powers in March 2017 and not 2016. We regret the error. Venezuela was once the richest country in Latin America. It has the largest known oil reserves in the world. And its democratic government was once praised world wide. But today, Venezuela’s democratic institutions and its economy are in shambles. The country has the highest inflation in the world, making food and medicine inaccessible to most Venezuelans. Over the last four years, its GDP has fallen 35%, which is a sharper drop than the one seen during the Great Depression in the US. The country’s murder rate has surpassed that of the most dangerous cities in the world. These conditions have sparked months of protests against the president, Nicolas Maduro. And it’s easy to see why: the country has become measurably worse since his election in 2013. Fasting vs. Eating Less: What's the Difference? (Science of Fasting)

12:50
This is about the drastic physiological differences between fasting and eating less ▲Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/WILearned ▲Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeverettlearned *NOTE* One of the key things in being able to fast in a healthy matter is entering the state of ketosis - that is, switching your metabolism from burning carbohydrate to burning fat. *Considering most people have been burning carbohydrate their whole lives* this can make fasting a challenge. Upton Sinclair recommends doing quite long fasts - 12 days, but you may want to work your way up to longer fasts. Unless you are relatively keto adapted (or have experience with fasting of course), it's important that you take precautions while doing a fast. Fasting isn't inherently dangerous, *but diving into fasting when your body is in no way geared for it can be.* I recommend doing more research before doing longer fasts. "The Complete Guide to Fasting" (http://amzn.to/2tQjxXa) is a good book to start with. As Tim Ferriss puts it: Please don't do anything stupid and kill yourself. It would make us both quite unhappy. Just in case I should also say that of course you need to balance fasting with eating - You need to survive off of something. I have been doing intermittent fasting the past year (22 hours fasted, 2 hours eating - you can widen it to 16/8, which still provides great benefits) and will fast for a couple days every other month or so. Several other people have recommend a routine like this - Tim Ferriss recommends doing a 3 day fast once per month and a 7 day fast once per year. Also make sure you're getting enough fat, protein, micronutrients and fiber to maintain a healthy weight and healthy body - *excessive* fasting can be very dangerous. Books Mentioned: "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung - http://amzn.to/2rXtalh "The Fasting Cure" by Upton Sinclair - (If you google the title you can find the full book online) "Tools of Titans" by Tim Ferriss - http://amzn.to/2rX6P7E [BLINKIST] Blinkist is an app I've been using lately to discover new books and review the ones I've already read. It gives you the key points in text or audio form from tons of different non-fiction books. Since I'm always going through so many books to get these done, it's very useful to get me exposed to more concepts beforehand to know if it's worth my time to buy and read through that particular book. What I learned from going blind in space | Chris Hadfield

There's an astronaut saying: In space, "there is no problem so bad that you can't make it worse." So how do you deal with the complexity, the sheer pressure, of dealing with dangerous and scary situations? Retired colonel Chris Hadfield paints a vivid portrait of how to be prepared for the worst in space (and life) -- and it starts with walking into a spider's web. I Found Out I Was Adopted And It Broke My Heart

★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED: https://bit.ly/2J5HP7j Hello everyone, this is Andrew. Sometimes, a family is not what it seems to be. We all have our secrets, and when they're revealed, it can change us completely - and not necessarily in a bad way. But let’s start from the beginning: Andrew's life was never anything special – his mom and dad were simple people with regular jobs. They never had any big fights, but it wouldn't be true to say that he was close to them either. They didn’t talk much except about ordinary stuff like school, grades and what was for dinner. By the time Andrew's 15th birthday approached, his parents wanted to have a party with all their family friends and their children. Andrew was very annoyed, because he wanted to have fun with his friends. But his parents insisted, so he HAD to accept. During the party, one of the guests, who was a friend of his parents, said: “It’s amazing how much you look like your parents despite your situation.” Andrew was confused, and he immediately asked: “What situation?” “Oh…” the guest said, “...you don’t know…" The rest of the party proceeded normally, but for days afterwards Andrew couldn’t stop thinking about what he had meant. One of the things that sprang into his mind was that maybe he had been adopted. It could have been true, because he’d always noticed small differences between his parents and himself. So one day at dinner, Andrew asked the question straight out. His parents just stared at him with a worried look on their faces, not saying anything. And at this moment he realized that he'd found out the truth. And it made him ANGRY. It turned out that EVERYONE knew except him. And it hurt, a lot. Andrew kept asking himself: "Who I am? What do I do now?" It was a very confusing and scary time for him. He almost started a rebellion. He spent a lot of time outside late at night, and his grades at school went down. The thing he just couldn’t understand was why they refused to talk to him about it. Why did they try to act as though everything was normal? And what was even worse was that they got angry at him when he stayed out for too long, and tried to control him. They weren’t even his real parents, so what right they had to do that? One evening, when he got back late, his father started shouting at Andrew for being spoiled and ungrateful despite everything they did for him. So he turned straight around and left the house. He didn’t know where to go, so he just walked through the dark streets. He doesn’t know how long he walked for, but it felt like hours. Andrew couldn't stop thinking about how nobody really cared about him. His real parents had probably left him, and it seemed that he was nothing more than a nuisance to his adopted ones. He couldn’t go back home, so he went to his favorite childhood place – a pond where he had loved to look at the ducks when he was little. Andrew sat there, cold and sad, and cried. He was completely lost. Suddenly, he saw his parents' car drive up next to the pond. His mother got out of the car. She looked scared and worried. She came up to Andrew and hugged him. “We were so worried! We didn’t know how to find you, so your father said that we should try looking for you at the pond”. Andrew still couldn't stop crying, and he started asking his mother questions – why did his real parents leave him? Why had they never told him? His mother sighed, then finally started answering his questions: “To be honest, darling, your real parents just didn’t want you. But we do want you. And we love you. Both me and your father. We decided not to tell you, so you would have a normal childhood. But I guess we were wrong. I’m sorry. You are the best thing that ever happened to us.” The only thing Andrew couldn’t understand was why his father was still just sitting in the car and hadn't even come out to talk to him. He looked through the window...and noticed that he was crying as well. Andrew had never seen his father cry. In fact, he rarely saw him showing any emotion. And his tears revealed more than his words could ever say. “Let’s go home,” his mom said. And he did. Andrew realized that his parents weren't perfect – they didn’t always know how to express their emotions or how to do the right thing. But they did love him. And it didn’t matter if he was adopted or not. They're still his parents, and he loves them despite all their peculiarities. Being loved is one of the best feelings in the world. And he was loved. And for that moment, that was enough for him to be happy again. Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com

How the Republican Party went from Lincoln to Trump

It wasn't always this way for the Republican Party. Watch the history of the Democratic Party: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6R0NvVr164 Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Today’s Republican Party opposes big government. It’s culturally conservative. Its demographic support is strongest among white voters, and it usually dominates elections in the South. And its 2016 presidential nominee has been heavily criticized for inciting racial tensions. But things weren’t always this way. Over the past 160 or so years, the party has undergone a remarkable transformation from the party of Abraham Lincoln… to the party of Donald Trump. How to Fix Rounded Shoulders (GONE IN 4 STEPS!)

14:01
Pick your program here - http://athleanx.com/x/my-workouts Subscribe to this channel here - http://bit.ly/2b0coMW Rounded shoulders are one of the most common postural problems that not only makes us look bad when standing but it compromises our bodies over time. In this video, I’m going to show you how to fix rounded shoulders in just 4 steps by attacking the problem with the right series of corrections. In order to get rid of round shoulders you will have to work on correcting joint issues, muscle weakness, muscle tightness and bad habits. We start with the joint correction. Most of us would think that we likely have a problem with our shoulder joint if the issue is rounded shoulders but that isn’t exactly accurate. In fact, tightness and restriction in the mid back (thoracic spine) is a far more significant joint mobility issue that is causing the shoulders to assume a bad posture. You can use things like a foam roller to try and correct this mobility issue but what is more effective and easier to implement is the simple drill shown in this video. All you have to do is lie face down on the floor and extend your arms up over your head at a 45 degree angle. Roll backwards to one side and let your arms stay high. This will not only rotate your thoracic spine but it will move it into extension and help you open up the restricted area. Do just a few turns to the left and right each day and you will quickly see your posture improve from just this alone. Next, we have to deal with the muscle issues. Muscles involved in causing rounded shoulders are either tight or weak. The syndrome is called upper cross and it is one where the muscles of the pec minor, levator scar and upper traps get tight and short and need stretching while the rhomboids, subscapularis, serratus and lower traps get long and weak. Here we are going to first focus on those that need to be stretched. The best two stretches are ones that you can do without any equipment. All you need is a doorway to position your body in and you are good to go. Stretch the subscapularis by putting your elbow inside the doorway and getting your arm into a position to throw a baseball. Rotate your body away from the elbow and you will feel a good stretch in the muscle deep inside your armpit and in the back of your arm. Hold for just 30-45 seconds and repeat a few times. Best results come from doing this just a few times per week on both arms. The pec minor stretch can be seen described here. Be sure to also stretch it for 30-45 seconds a few times a week and before long you will find it easier than ever to get into the correct posture because you have freed up the tightnesses. In order to be able to hold this proper position however, without thinking, you are going to have to strengthen the right muscles as well. Here are shown just two exercises that you can do with one inexpensive resistance band. The key is that they not only work the right muscles to fix the problem but they work them in the right combination with each other. The focus here should not be on doing lots of reps but rather fewer quality reps. This whole routine for fixing your rounded shoulders should not take you more than just 5 minutes to perform. The key is going to be to be consistent with it. I tried to keep it really easy to follow and low in the requirement of equipment. Just a few times per week and 4 steps is all you need to start making the rounded shoulders you now have a distant memory. If you are looking for a complete workout program that is designed by a physical therapist to not only give you great posture but help you to build serious athletic muscle in the process, head to http://athleanx.com and get one of the ATHLEAN-X Training Systems. My Mom Betrayed Us And My Dad Became An Alcoholic

05:40
SUBSCRIBE If you like my channel: ► https://bit.ly/2J5HP7j Hello! This is Jenny. It’s a bit sad to say this, but her dad is an alcoholic. But don’t assume that she's therefore going to talk about domestic violence. She loves her dad; he might just have the sweetest personality of anyone she's ever known. And maybe that's the real reason why he drinks. Here's Jenny's experience. Her life was completely normal until she turned 12. Jenny had very loving parents. Her mom was a very energetic woman and her dad was a nice calm guy. She takes more after her mom, and was growing up into an active and optimistic young woman. But one day, everything changed. Jenny's mom revealed that she had met another man, and she was moving to another city with him. And then it got even worse: "Jenny", she said, "I have no intention of going to court to make you live with me. I think you’d better stay with your dad – you spend your life here. It would be better for everyone". If you think this was horrible enough, Jenny has even more to tell you. She felt so betrayed by her mother, and so indignant. Really, is that the right way to treat your own children? At the same time, she realized that if her mother didn’t want her, then she needed to adjust. This is how she ended up staying with her dad. He was so sad – it must be so unpleasant when a woman you love decides that she doesn’t need you anymore. And so, he started relaxing with a drink or two in the evening. "Sorry, Jenny", he said, "it just makes me feel better. Do you mind?" One of her dad's rare defects was his lack of willpower. Jenny was still very young at the time and didn’t realize this fast enough. When it began to dawn on her that he had a problem, it was too late. Two drinks became four, four became eight, then he fell asleep in the armchair and Jenny had to help him towards the bedroom. He said he felt better, he didn’t feel so useless and lonely. At the time, he seemed to be just one step away from full-blown depression, but Jenny would have preferred it if he had taken some medication rather than drink himself into unconsciousness. The real tragedy started when he decided that he'd scared Jenny too much at home with his drinking and decided he had better go out to do it instead. The fact is that social alcoholism is the worst. He found some small filthy bars, disgusting pubs, horrible dens, where he would drink with other alcoholics and talk to them about his miserable life. He would cry and ask for forgiveness, and then promise to give it up. But he just couldn’t do it. The problem was that he now spent every evening drinking, and would crawl home rather than walk. Sometimes he came in with bruises. Sometimes, he forgot to come home. In those cases, Jenny would have to take a taxi and do a pub crawl of her own, looking for him. Not a nice environment for a teenage girl. Imagine it - she had to learn how to persuade his buddies to let him go home, and she sometimes even had to bring a baseball bat with her to make herself understood. Everyone knew that Jenny was not someone to mess with. Of course, she tried to keep her spirits up, but it was hard even for a tough person like her. She felt so sad and lonely, and every day those feelings grew. One day, she went into a bar to fetch her dad, and there was an enormous guy who claimed that her dad hadn’t paid. He was nearly senseless. Jenny doesn’t remember exactly how she managed to get out of there, but she brought her dad home feeling absolutely desperate. She didn’t have any hope left, and thought that she was doomed to spend the next few years searching for her drunk dad every night. It was a dead end. The next day she wanted to tell her dad that she had to leave him and go to her mom, or elsewhere - she just couldn’t take it anymore. She was crying, and her dad was looking at her with a horrified expression on his face – he had never seen her cry. This was the turning point, when he realized that he couldn’t do it anymore – to himself, but above all to his daughter. It was the first time she saw that her dad had willpower after all. The same day he went to his first AA session. The next day was Jenny's 15th birthday, and she decided to stay with her dad for some time to see if he could remain sober. It turned out that life is beautiful even without drinking. He repeats this every day, and constantly apologizes for those hellish three years. But Jenny's not offended, because she managed to learn a useful lesson even from that horror. Now, she's a wrestler, and quite a talented one – they say that she has the character of a warrior. She knows exactly which bars she got it from. Her dad comes to support her at all her competitions - straight from his AA meetings, absolutely clean. And she now knows that even if the situation is worse than you could ever imagine, there is always hope. Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com

How not to be ignorant about the world | Hans and Ola Rosling

19:10
