Game Design: 3D Game-Making & Intro to Programming 2014

01:01
Design two computer games while gaining an understanding of intermediate to advanced game development. First, create a two-player 3D racing game which uses a game "camera" to provide a realistic sense of driving. Then, learn to use the GameMaker programming language (GML) to design your second game, a 2D platform adventure. You write the scripts that control the game action - including character movement, health and scoring, collisions, and displays. You'll gain a familiarity with coding and quickly see how your code translates into actions. It's a good introduction to programming elements such as loops, variables, functions, and operators and offers similarities to Java and C# languages. Students take home their games to play on a Windows-PC. This class is geared to students who wish to take game design skills to the next level and desire to learn how to write code for game play. No prior programming experience is required, but students will need to be comfortable with typing and following higher-level instructions due to the code-writing aspect of the second game. http://www.techknowhowkids.com

2D Game Programming Timelapse (Lua/Love2D)

Small and really bare game I made in a day. Uses a lighting/shadow system, quick and easy camera movement, .txt parser for exported tilemaps from Tiled. Keep in mind, this was all done in a day so there isn't much features currently, but I'm hoping to build more off it. ** SOURCE CODE **: https://github.com/redsled84/gameChallengeLove2d/blob/master/lib/gamera.lua Programs I used: Sublime Text 3 (really nice customizable text editor) Tiled (level creator) Camtasia Screen Recorder After Effects CS6 (for video editing) Aseprite (pixel art tool) Songs in order of appearance: https://soundcloud.com/freehiphopbeat... https://soundcloud.com/bigkrit/4eva-n... https://soundcloud.com/freehiphopbeat... Engine: Love2D - http://www.love2d.org/ Programming Language: Lua - http://www.lua.org/ *EDIT: I changed the camera library and light library to better versions for efficiency reasons :P Libraries: bump.lua (a collision/response library for Love2d) - https://github.com/kikito/bump.lua gamera.lua (VERY simple camera library) -https://github.com/redsled84/gameChallengeLove2d/blob/master/lib/gamera.lua Light vs Shadow - https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=78998 Hope you enjoyed my small game and the time lapse. If you have any questions or requests, please ask. If you haven't even programmed before and you want to get into game development, I highly recommend you start programming simple things. Otherwise, delving into something such as lighting or COLLISION without even knowing what to do will leave you very discouraged.

Game Development in Python 3 With PyGame - 1 - Intro

24:09
In this video, we introduce how to make video games with the Python programming language and the PyGame module to make video games. Python makes for a great programming language to use when learning game development because of its simple syntax. Learning game development is also a great way to learn how to program. Video games usually incorporate mathematics, physics , sometimes artificial intelligence, and a lot of logic. Most importantly, they can be an enjoyable way to learn all of this. Now the installation for Pygame from one of the websites shared uses wheel (whl) files instead of executables. To install the wheel file: Download the .whl that matches your python version and bit version. Once downloaded: Either use this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnpC_Ib_lbc or.. Extract the .whl file, you should see a "pygame" directory. If you do not have a program that can extract it, use something like 7-zip. Move the Pygame directory to: C:/Python34/Lib/site-packages/ See http://pythonprogramming.net for sample code PyGame with Python 3 Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQVvvaa0QuDdLkP8MrOXLe_rKuf6r80KO http://seaofbtc.com http://sentdex.com http://hkinsley.com https://twitter.com/sentdex Bitcoin donations: 1GV7srgR4NJx4vrk7avCmmVQQrqmv87ty6

Part exploratory adventure, part creative building tool, "Minecraft" evolved from a cult classic into an unprecedented hit, raking daily sales in by the thousands. By the end of 2010, Notch was able to quit his day job and live the dream of founding his own development studio, Mojang. This feature-length documentary follows the young company over the course of its first year as their profile expands across the world stage and into the homes of millions of gamers. Featuring insights from industry icons (Peter Molyneux, Tim Schafer), journalists (Geoff Keighley, Stephen Totilo), tastemakers (Gabe & Tycho of Penny Arcade), and players profoundly impacted by the game (Yogscast, The Shaft, Minecraft Teacher), the film serves as a time capsule for one of this generation's most unorthodox success stories. Minecraft: The Story of Mojang is the second feature from game culture archivists 2 Player Productions (Reformat the Planet, Penny Arcade: The Series - Season 1, Double Fine Adventure!). Funded through crowdsourcing site Kickstarter.com, the production spanned nearly two years in locations across North America and Europe.

Python Programming Language: What can you do with Python? Get discount here: https://ecoursereview.com/python Read article: https://ecoursereview.com/fun-python-project-what-can-you-do-with-python/ As a general purpose programming language, Python can be used for multiple things. Python can be easily used for small, large, online and offline projects. The best options for utilizing Python are web development, simple scripting and data analysis. Below are a few examples of what Python will let you do: Web Development: You can use Python to create web applications on many levels of complexity. There are many excellent Python web frameworks including, Pyramid, Django and Flask, to name a few. Data Analysis: Python is the leading language of choice for many data scientists. Python has grown in popularity, within this field, due to its excellent libraries including; NumPy and Pandas and its superb libraries for data visualization like Matplotlib and Seaborn. Machine Learning: What if you could predict customer satisfaction or analyze what factors will affect household pricing or to predict stocks over the next few days, based on previous years data? There are many wonderful libraries implementing machine learning algorithms such as Scikit-Learn, NLTK and TensorFlow. Computer Vision: You can do many interesting things such as Face detection, Color detection while using Opencv and Python. Internet Of Things With Raspberry Pi: Raspberry Pi is a very tiny and affordable computer which was developed for education and has gained enormous popularity among hobbyists with do-it-yourself hardware and automation. You can even build a robot and automate your entire home. Raspberry Pi can be used as the brain for your robot in order to perform various actions and/or react to the environment. The coding on a Raspberry Pi can be performed using Python. The Possibilities are endless! Game Development: Create a video game using module Pygame. Basically, you use Python to write the logic of the game. PyGame applications can run on Android devices. Web Scraping: If you need to grab data from a website but the site does not have an API to expose data, use Python to scraping data. Writing Scripts: If you're doing something manually and want to automate repetitive stuff, such as emails, it's not difficult to automate once you know the basics of this language. Browser Automation: Perform some neat things such as opening a browser and posting a Facebook status, you can do it with Selenium with Python. GUI Development: Build a GUI application (desktop app) using Python modules Tkinter, PyQt to support it. Rapid Prototyping: Python has libraries for just about everything.
