A Video Game That Teaches You How To Code
"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think,” Steve Jobs said in 1995. But for a beginner, learning to code can be intimidating. Enter CodeSpells. UC San Diego's Sarah Guthals has developed this video game to teach people how to code. The story line is simple: you’re a wizard that uses spells (i.e. code) to navigate through the world, fight off foes, and solve problems. While experienced coders can delve deep into the programming to create some truly devastating spells, newbies can easily experiment with the simple drag-and-drop coding interface. Python can be easily used for small, large, online and offline projects. The best options for utilizing Python are web development, simple scripting and data analysis. Below are a few examples of what Python will let you do: Web Development: You can use Python to create web applications on many levels of complexity. There are many excellent Python web frameworks including, Pyramid, Django and Flask, to name a few. Data Analysis: Python is the leading language of choice for many data scientists. Python has grown in popularity, within this field, due to its excellent libraries including; NumPy and Pandas and its superb libraries for data visualization like Matplotlib and Seaborn. Machine Learning: What if you could predict customer satisfaction or analyze what factors will affect household pricing or to predict stocks over the next few days, based on previous years data? There are many wonderful libraries implementing machine learning algorithms such as Scikit-Learn, NLTK and TensorFlow. Computer Vision: You can do many interesting things such as Face detection, Color detection while using Opencv and Python. Internet Of Things With Raspberry Pi: Raspberry Pi is a very tiny and affordable computer which was developed for education and has gained enormous popularity among hobbyists with do-it-yourself hardware and automation. Coding with Notch (from Minecraft: The Story of Mojang)
AVAILABLE NOW! $20 2 DISC DVD - http://www.fangamer.net/products/minecraft-the-story-of-mojang $8 DRM-FREE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD http://www.minecraftstoryofmojang.com $7 ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK BY C418 http://c418.bandcamp.com/album/one In 2009, independent video game designer Markus "Notch" Persson released a work in progress that would go on to break every industry rule for achieving success. Part exploratory adventure, part creative building tool, "Minecraft" evolved from a cult classic into an unprecedented hit, raking daily sales in by the thousands. By the end of 2010, Notch was able to quit his day job and live the dream of founding his own development studio, Mojang. This feature-length documentary follows the young company over the course of its first year as their profile expands across the world stage and into the homes of millions of gamers. Featuring insights from industry icons (Peter Molyneux, Tim Schafer), journalists (Geoff Keighley, Stephen Totilo), tastemakers (Gabe & Tycho of Penny Arcade), and players profoundly impacted by the game (Yogscast, The Shaft, Minecraft Teacher), the film serves as a time capsule for one of this generation's most unorthodox success stories. Minecraft: The Story of Mojang is the second feature from game culture archivists 2 Player Productions (Reformat the Planet, Penny Arcade: The Series - Season 1, Double Fine Adventure!). Funded through crowdsourcing site Kickstarter.com, the production spanned nearly two years in locations across North America and Europe.

Some people dream of becoming a game developer. And I include myself in this statistic. For a long time, I've dreamed of becoming and working with game development. For those who don't know, Video game development is the process of creating a video game. Development is undertaken by a game developer, which may range from one person to a large business. But... Is this a viable career path? Can you actually make money by becoming a game developer? Is the competition high? What should you do in order to become a game developer? How should you start? I got this question and it says, "Hi John, how's it going? I'm a 19-year-old college student and I'm interested in the gaming industry mostly in programming. I've been doing some basic tutorials for different game engines and languages and I'm not really sure what to do about school. I've been doubting that a degree would be good for me. I recently found block.io and it looks interesting. The android developer option looks cool and it's shorter and less expensive than others. There seems to be lots of boot camps or web development and software engineering but none for game development like working on a PC or consul games either making your own or working with other people. Do you have any advice? Is software engineering and web development a good thing to look into even though it doesn't seem as interesting right now? Thanks for your time." This is sort of a tough one, right? I mean game development is difficult to get into. Why? Because everyone wants to get in the game development, I mean who wouldn't want to? The only thing I can think of that would be more difficult to get in to besides game development and certain industries, adult industries that we won't name here would probably be game testing. Who wouldn't want to test games, right? But a game developer it's definitely difficult to break into but you can do it and you can go to school for it. I'm going to give you 2 schools that I've always wanted to attend. One of them-I don't know a lot about these schools but I've heard of them and they're game development schools specifically. One of them is DigiPen so check that one out. The other one is here in-near me in Orlando called Full Sail University. I've heard of them. I've heard really good things. In fact, just a few years ago I was tempted to go get a degree from there just because I wanted to go to the school because it seemed like it would be cool. I don't know of any boot camps that would actually do game development and I don't know if you really want to. I think if you wanted-I think game development is in depth enough and that you need enough connections that you probably want to go to school to do that. Watch this video and find out. How fast does Bisqwit type?
Ever wonder how fast I type? Watch this video to see, as I use a homebrew DOS game to find out. Click “show more” to view more information. Check out the FAQ in the comment section for any questions! In the Finnish test (yes, olen suomalainen), I peaked 10mrs of 4128, with end result of 3845. (Avg. 6.41 characters per second.) In the English test, I peaked 10mrs of 3601, with end result of 3545. (Avg. 5.91 characters per second.) Note that these readings are likely very incorrect, because it is impossible to get accurate timings from a program run in DOSBox. For more details, read the FAQ in the comment section of this video. My links: Twitter: https://twitter.com/RealBisqwit Patreon: https://patreon.com/Bisqwit (alternatives at http://iki.fi/bisqwit/donate.html) Twitch: http://twitch.tv/RealBisqwit Homepage: http://iki.fi/bisqwit/ You can contribute subtitles/captions at: http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_video?v=jnkOcAkLkBU Or to any video on my channel at: http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?tab=2&c=UCKTehwyGCKF-b2wo0RKwrcg Here's the video that shows how I make programming videos: http://youtu.be/5Da6ZyQJjE0 Download WSpeed: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/wspeed/ It is a 16-bit DOS program. It will _not_ work in 64-bit Windows without a DOS emulator. The best way to run it would be to run it under MS-DOS (operating system) on a PC, but this is hardly feasible today for anyone. The second best way is to install DOSBox (available for many operating systems), and use that. You can run the game using DOSBox. When you launch DOSBox, you will have to ”mount” the drive or directory where you unpacked the game, and navigate to the right subdirectory using “cd” commands, and then run the game by typing its name. Aside from the “mount” command this is just basic DOS handling. The red flashing is WSpeed saying that your computer (i.e. DOSBox, if you run it under DOSBox) is too slow. If you get red flashing in the game, here’s how to fix it. By default, DOSBox emulates a 3 MHz computer, but hitting Ctrl+F12 increases the emulated CPU clock speed. But if you make the emulated CPU clock too fast, it may actually make DOSBox slow. Because of these issues, WSpeed+DOSBox is not an accurate way to measure your typing speed. I have provided it for entertainment purposes only. You can buy the same model of USB keyboard that I used, here (USA layout): http://bisqwit.iki.fi/dx/p/106619 NOTE: Clarification on my definition of “uncut”: I do alternate between different picture-in-picture set-ups, and I do swap audio between different streams, but the progression of time will be uninterrupted, and footage will be shown for every second in the order it happened and at unedited pace (starting from about 1 minute into the video). NOTE: Clarification on my definition of “blind” / “first try”: Of course I have played this game before. I was the one who created it. But it has been over 15 years. It hardly counts as “training” for the purposes of getting a good result in this video. Any other questions? Read the FAQ in the comment section. #Bisqwit #DOSGaming #HomebrewGames #Blog #FastTyping

The First Programming Languages: Crash Course Computer Science #11
Get your first two months of CuriosityStream free by going to http://curiositystream.com/crashcourse and using the promo code “crashcourse”. So we ended last episode with programming at the hardware level with things like plugboards and huge panels of switches, but what was really needed was a more versatile way to program computers - software! For much of this series we’ve been talking about machine code, or the 1’s and 0’s our computers read to perform operations, but giving our computers instructions in 1’s and 0’s is incredibly inefficient, and a “higher-level” language was needed. This led to the development of assembly code and assemblers that allow us to use operands and mnemonics to more easily write programs, but assembly language is still tied to underlying hardware. So by 1952 Navy officer Grace Hopper had helped created the first high-level programming language A-0 and compiler to translate that code to our machines. This would eventually lead to IBM’s Fortran and then a golden age of computing languages over the coming decades. Most importantly, these new languages utilized new abstractions to make programming easier and more powerful giving more and more people the ability to create new and amazing things. What Programming Language Should I Learn First?
Start learning python by building projects in under 5 minutes TODAY – Even if you're a complete beginner... http://cleverprogrammer.to/enroll ★☆★READ FULL DEPTH BLOG POST★☆★ https://www.cleverprogrammer.com/blog/2017/3/26/top-4-reasons-why-you-need-to-learn-computer-programming ★☆★Enroll in Learn Python OOP™ to Create Apps Using Python★☆★ http://cleverprogrammer.to/enroll ★☆★ How to Teach Yourself Code ★☆★ https://youtu.be/CzscINpDIug ★☆★ Why You Should Learn To Code - Top 4 Reasons ★☆★ https://youtu.be/Jlknj_wq8CQ ★☆★PYTHON BEGINNER BOOK RECOMMENDATION★☆★ http://amzn.to/2cDhHlZ Should you start off with Java, C++, C, Python, Javascript, SQL, Swift, Objective-C or what!?? ... Feeling overwhelmed yet before you even began your journey as a software developer? If so, good! The point of this video is to discuss all of that in a simple way and clarify common misconceptions among beginning coders when they are about to start. We discuss different programming languages and suggest which language you should perhaps start off with first. You can always switch over later! The important thing is to understand the concepts in a computer programming language especially as a beginner. Do not try to deal with both conceptual difficulty and syntactical difficulty at the same time. Imagine if you never knew any human language and you tried to start off by learning Japanese as an adult, that would be really tough. Start simple, learn the concepts, then transition to another language. We will talk about which languages to avoid as a beginner! ★☆★ MY PROJECT AGILE DIRECTIONS: ★☆★ https://goo.gl/rYFyR8 I worked on this project with my friend. Never knew ANY Javascript but picked it up within one day and built this whole thing together with my friend in about 1-2 days. The idea behind the app is to be able to download commonly visited locations on an excel sheet and print them so when your GPS dies on you... You are still good to go. I did a lot of private chess lessons and I depended on my GPS for the job. However, sometimes it died on me in very critical situations and that almost got me fired from my job. This app was made for people who can use this in order to not have to rely on GPS solely to get to their destination. ------------------------------------ Clever Programmer Website ► http://cleverprogrammer.com Facebook ► http://cleverprogrammer.to/facebook Twitter ► http://cleverprogrammer.to/twitter Instagram ► http://cleverprogrammer.to/instagram YouTube ► https://www.youtube.com/c/CleverProgrammer Snapchat ► Rafeh1 ...
